Elk Ridge Couple Dies In Hobble Creek Canyon Crash

Posted On : 6/11/2016 4:49:14 PM

A husband and wife were found dead in a single vehicle crash in Hobble Creek Canyon on Friday. Both were thrown from the vehicle. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

On Friday, June 10, 2016, shortly after 4:30 PM, Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of a possible crash along the Right Fork Hobble Creek Road. A bicyclist in the area reported seeing "skid marks and car parts" going over the edge of a cliff. Deputies responded and located a crashed Dodge pickup truck 600 feet below the dirt road at the bottom of the embankment. Deputies reported that the tire tracks did not show evidence that the pickup had skidded or slid on the road before going over the side. The pickup is registered to Lance J. Simpson, age 46, of Elk Ridge. His body, and the body of his wife, Jade Simpson, were found in different areas along the path where the pickup came off the dirt road. The pickup rolled multiple times before coming to rest. Utah County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue volunteers responded and recovered both bodies. The bodies of Lance and Jade Simpson were taken to the Office of Medical Examiner in Salt Lake. Investigators were not able to determine what caused the truck to leave the road. The seat belts in the pickup were buckled, but because of extensive damage they have not yet been able to determine if the Simpson's were wearing them. There was evidence at the scene and in the pickup that leads investigators to believe alcohol might have been a factor in the crash. This remains an active investigation in an effort to determine what caused the crash.
