Posted On : 10/29/2016 11:58:53 PM

A teenage boy has died from an apparent fall at Bridal Veil Falls. A family friend who was with him Has also died in a separate fall in the same area.

***** UPDATE #2 ***** On October 30, 2016, at about 7:45 AM, members of the Utah County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team found the body of Brandon Reas. Mr. Reas had been missing since October 29 when the body of 14 year old Kedi Chen was found at the base of Bridal veil Falls in Provo Canyon. Chen, visiting Utah on a a short exchange program, was only scheduled to be in Utah for a few days. Chen's body was found near the base of the falls toward the east side. Reas's body was found at the first level above the base of the falls toward the west. Based on the distance between the two victims investigators do not believe they fell together. Beyond that investigators may not be able to determine exactly what events happened that led to both of these deaths. Because of the nature of the terrain where Reas's body was found it will take several hours to complete the recovery effort.

***** UPDATE 3:07 AM ***** The deceased boy is Kedi Chen, age 14. He is from China but has been living in Nara, Japan. He arrived in Utah on 10/29/16 and was only going to be here a few days as part of a short term exchange program. The missing man is Brandon I. Reas, age 28, of Springville. He may still be in the area of Bridal Veil Falls, but his exact status is unknown. Mr. Reas and his family were hosting Kedi Chen while he was in Utah. The search for Mr. Reas will resume around 8:00 Sunday morning.

On October 29, 2016, at about 6:45 PM, Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of an injured teenage boy at the base of Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon. When Deputies arrived they determined the boy was dead. He sustained significant injuries, apparently due to a fall from a cliff above the falls. His name is bejng withheld pending notification of his family. The boy was hiking with a 28 year old family friend. That man is missing. Investigators do not know if he is lost or injured. Efforts are being made to find him. That effort will be scaled up once daylight arrives.
