Santaquin Man Arrested On Aggravated Burglary and Aggravated Assault Charges

Posted On : 8/7/2017 5:13:24 PM

A Santaquin man was arrested after he broke into a home in Spanish Fork and assaulted his ex-wife. He later led police on a pursuit. He was arrested after a PIT maneuver was used to stop him.

On August 4, 2017, shortly before 10:30 PM, Officers with Spanish Fork Police Department were dispatched to a report from a woman who said someone was breaking into her home. Spanish Fork Police spoke to her and she identified the suspect as Jordan Chappel Christensen, age 32, of Santaquin. That victim told police she had been in a six year relationship with Christensen. Police said the victim told them Christensen used a baseball bat to break into her home where he assaulted her with the bat. While at this victim's home she said Christensen took a phone from her while she was talking to 911 dispatchers.

A short time later Officers with Santaquin Police Department found a pickup truck at the home where he was living in their city. In the bed of that pickup they found a baseball bat that had on it what looked like blood, and there was similar material found by Spanish Fork Police at the scene of the aggravated burglary in their city. Officers tried to reach anyone at the home in Santaquin but nobody answered the door. Christensen is on probation with the Utah Department of Adult Probation and Parole and his Probation Officer called him on the phone encouraging him to give himself up. Christensen denied that he was at the home in Santaquin. As Officers prepared an application for a search warrant a man, later identified as Christensen's father, came to the door and allowed Officers in his home. As Officers searched the home Christensen ran outside to his truck.

Officers and Deputies gave Christensen orders to stop, but got into his pickup and drove away at high speed. A Deputy with the Utah County Sheriff's Office pursued Christensen at speeds reaching 65 MPH in 25 MPH speed zones. At a point where Christensen's speed slowed that Deputy used a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver which caused Christensen's pickup to spin. Chrsitensen then crashed into a wall at the Santaquin cemetery. Christensen still refused to comply with Deputies orders to get out of his truck so a Deputy sent his K9 into the pickup. Deputies witnessed Christensen hitting the K9. Other Deputies used a pepper gun and Tasers to subdue Christensen. He was taken into custody at that point and given medical attention. He had sustained cuts on his arm with Officers believe may have been from when he broke into the vitim's home in Spanish Fork. Christensen was also highly intoxicated and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. He was admitted for evaluation and treatment, but is now being held at the Utah County Jail.

Spanish Fork Officers booked Christensen on the following charges: Aggravated Burglary, first degree felony; Aggravated Assault-Domestic Violence, 3 degree felony; Criminal Mischief-Domestic Violence, class A misdemeanor; and Interruption of Communication Device, class B misdemeanor. There was an active protective order in place for Christensen to stay away from the victim but it had not yet been served. Bail on the charges brought by Spanish Fork Police has been set at $20,000.00 cash only.

Deputies booked Christensen on the following charges: DUI With 2 or More Prior Convictions, 3rd degree felony; Evading/Fail to Stop at Command of Law Enforcement, 3rd degree felony; Fail to Stop at Command of Law Enforcement; class A misdemeanor; Interference With Arresting Officer, class B misdemeanor; Interfering With a Police Service Animal, class A misdemeanor; Open Container, class C misdemeanor; Alcohol Restricted Driver, class B misdemeanor; Driving Without Ignition Interlock Device Installed, class B Misdemeanor; and Drive on Alcohol Revoked Driver License, class B misdemeanor. AP&P also placed Christensen on a probation hold pending an order to show cause hearing. Bail on the charges brought by the Utah County Sheriff's Office has been set at $10,000.00 cash only. There is no bail for the AP&P hold.
