A 37 year old man shot at Deputies and Officers during a traffic stop on I-15 in Springville. A father and son narrowly escaped injury and another motorist was injured by gunfire.

December 20, 2017: On this date, at around 6:00 PM, Nephi Police were dispatched to a local truck stop on reports that shots had been fired. They learned that a man who reportedly locked his keys in a pickup shot the window out to get inside. He then drove away north on I-15. Nephi Police broadcast a description of the suspect and the pickup he was driving. At about 6:30 PM Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office, and Officers from other Agencies, found the suspect pickup and attempted to make a traffic stop at about mile 260. During the stop the suspect fired at the Deputies and Officers. Those Deputies and an Officer fired at the suspect. The suspect, Arturo Ray Gallemore-Jimenez, age 37, drove away, continuing north on I-15. Two tires on the pickup were flat and the suspect was only driving about 30 MPH. Police Officers, UHP Troopers, and Deputies closed off all the north bound I-15 off ramps and on ramps to keep other motorists away from the danger posed by Gallemore-Jimenez. As they approached mile 269 the suspect crashed into a fence on the east side of the freeway along the University Parkway exit. There was another exchange of gunfire and a short time later Deputies and Officers took Gallemore-Jimenez into custody. He sustained gunshot wounds to his right arm and the right side of his neck. Those injuries appear to not be life threatening. Gallemore-Jimenez was taken to Utah Valley Hospital where he is receiving treatment and is in the custody of the Utah County Sheriff's Office.

During the confrontation and exchange of gunfire a passing vehicle was struck by gunfire which narrowly missed a man and his four year old son. Another motorist, a 21 year old Provo man, was struck by gunfire. He was shot in the right shoulder and is being treated at Utah Valley Hospital. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening. None of the Deputies or Officers were injured during this confrontation.

There was evidence of multiple firearms in the pickup Gallemore-Jimenez was driving. At the time he was taken into custody Gallemore-Jimenez was wearing body armor. He has a valid driver license out of Kansas and a suspended driver license out of Utah. Gallemore-Jimenez will remain in the custody of the Utah County Sheriff's office while in the hospital. Once he is released from the hospital he will be booked into the Utah County Jail. Exact charges have yet to be determined. This case is being investigated by the Officer Involved Shooting Protocol team with the Utah County Attorney's Office. Gallemore-Jimenez has criminal history records in Utah and at least six other states for charges including drug possession DWI, burglary, and resisting arrest.
