Deputies responded to a report of a man at a gas station openly carrying a handgun and a rifle. They found that the man posed no threat and had committed no crime.

PRESS RELEASE, March 14, 2018, 4:00 PM. At 10:30 this morning Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of a man openly carrying a rifle and handgun outside the Maverik gas station in the area of SR-73 and Ranches Parkway in Eagle Mountain. Nearby Rockwell Charter High School was placed on lockdown for a short time due to its close proximity to Maverik. Black Ridge Elementary also went on lockdown for a short time. When Deputies made contact with the individual he communicated that he was "exercising his 2nd Amendment right and open carrying to promote gun awareness". Because the Maverik is private property and the individual was causing alarm the business asked that he be trespassed and not return to the property. This 21 year old man was compliant with Deputies and left the property. He never posed a danger or made threats to anyone. He was in a place he could lawfully be, doing something he could lawfully do. Deputies explained to him that while his actions were lawful they do cause alarm.
