A 36 year old Payson man sustained life threatening injuries after being struck by a train. He was flown by helicopter to Utah Valley Region Mecial Center and died while en route to the hospital.
On August 6, 2012, at about 7 minutes after midnight, Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of a train collding with an ATV. The location of the collision was in Utah County west of the city of Payson. The victim, William Cody Hunter, 36, Payson, was reportedly trying to cross the railroad tracks and was unable to get his ATV across the tracks as the train approached. He and a woman were trying to cross the tracks away from a designated railroad crossing. The woman was able to get away from the tracks but Cody was unable to get off the tracks before he was hit by the north bound train.
Among other injuries, Cody's right leg was injured and severed just above the knee. Payson Fire and Ambulance responded and Airmed arrived. After being treated at the scene Cody was transported by helicopter to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. He was in extremely critical condition at the scene of the accident but died while en route to the hospital.
