Bike/Helmet Safety
Did you know that a properly fitted bike helmet can reduce the risk of head and brain injury by as much as 88%? Learning the rules of the road and how to properly wear a bike helmet on every ride can be a life saver! If you are interested in scheduling a bike safety presentation at your school or community group, Call 801-851-7085.

Booster Seat/Car Seat Safety
Did you know that over 97 percent of car seats are installed incorrectly in Utah County? This free class helps parents (as well as grandparents, day-care providers, care-givers, etc) to learn the proper use and installation of infant and child car seats. Certified car seat technicians teach a free one hour car seat class in both English and Spanish at the Utah County Health Department. This class is taught twice a month. If you are interested in scheduling a car seat presentation at your organization or community group, Call 801-851-7035.

Child Injury Prevention
Unintentional childhood injury is the number one cause of death for children ages 14 and under. Call 801-851-7035 to learn more about a variety of child injury prevention topics offered to the community.

Pedestrian Safety
During the last decade, more than 63,000 pedestrians died and more than a million others were injured in pedestrian-vehicle crashes. Learning pedestrian safety skills is a critical necessity for everyone. Call 801-851-7035 for more information.

Poison Prevention
The Health Promotion office has some helpful teaching tools available for the local community to check out on poison safety. Call 801-851-7085.

Safety Belt/Occupant Protection
Research has shown that lap/shoulder belts, when used properly, reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent and the risk of moderate to critical injury by 50 percent. For light truck occupants, safety belts reduce the risk of fatal injury by 60 percent and moderate-to-critical injury by 65 percent. Teens have the highest fatality rate in motor vehicle crashes than any other age group. Because teens have an increased exposure to potentially fatal traffic crashes, it is imperative that efforts to increase safety belt use among this age group be given the highest priority. Call 801-851-7035 to explore what presentation opportunities may be available for your school or community group.

Water Safety/Swimming
For people between the ages of 5 and 24, drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death. Most water-related accidents can be avoided by knowing how to stay safe and following a few simple guidelines. Call 801-851-7035 for more information.
