| The Utah County Board of Health introduced a new member at their regular board meeting last evening. Saundra (Sandy) Huff was appointed to a three year term last week by the Utah County Commissioners. |

| Huff succeeds Craig Witham who was also recognized for his ten years of service on the Board. "Craig served two five year terms," said Dr. Joseph Miner, Utah County Health Department (UCHD) executive director. "Craig has been an active member for a decade now." The Board presented Witham with a plaque of appreciation for his dedication and service over the years. |

| Besides being on the Board of Health, Witham is an active member of the Utah Restaurant Association. He acted as a food industry representative on the board, lending his considerable experience when it came to policy discussions and decisions. Witham owns the Los Hermanos restaurants in Provo and Lindon. |

| "Besides representing the restaurant industry, Craig has always been very conscientious about representing the best interests of the community," said Rulon Barlow, board chair. "He has been a tremendous asset to our board and our community." |

| Dr. Miner also expressed his appreciation. "Even before his appointment to the Board, he was very interested and involved in public health issues and community service." |

| Huff has been the owner/manager of Dalton's Restaurant in Payson for over seven years. Prior to this she was the manager of a meat processing company and so worked closely with the Utah Department of Agriculture's food safety programs. "She has vast experience with the food industry," said Dr. Miner. "She is very knowledgeable about food safety programs, with active knowledge of how to implement such programs in the food service industry." |

| Huff also has training as an emergency medical technician and is active in the community. Huff will serve a three year term of service on the board. |

| "We appreciate having someone from the restaurant industry," said Barlow. "Your experience and willingness to participate are appreciated." |

| The Board also appointed their chair and vice chair for the next two years. They voted unanimously to have Rulon Barlow and Joan Baldwin continue in their positions as chair and vice chair (respectively). |

| The Utah County Board of Health consists of nine appointed citizens of the Utah County community. The Board members are appointed to their three year terms by the Utah County Commissioners. Under Title 26A of the Utah Code, the Board has authority to adopt regulations governing the health of the citizens whom it serves. Other members of the Utah County Board of Health include Rulon Barlow (chair), Joan Baldwin (vice-chair), Dr. Dennis Hess, Randall Merrill (Provo School District superintendent), Mayor Jerry Washburn (Orem), Doris Baker, Viola Ramos, and Commissioner Larry Ellertson (Utah County). Dr. Joseph Miner serves as executive secretary to the Board in his role as UCHD executive director. |

| The Utah County Health Department seeks to prevent avoidable disease and injury, and promote health by monitoring the health of our community, and assuring conditions in which people can be healthy. The Board of Health meets regularly to discuss public health concerns, policies, procedures and issues. |
