A 5th grade teacher and youth wrestling coach in Nephi was arrested for 1st degree felony Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child. He was booked in Juab County Jail and has since posted $50,000 cash bail.
On Saturday December 22, 2012, detectives with the Utah County Sheriff's Office (UCSO) were contacted by officials with Nephi Police Department with a request to investigate a report of sexual abuse. The investigators in Nephi had a conflict with the suspect involved.
On December 22, 2012 the victim was taken to Primary Children’s Medical Center where medical personnel conducted a child forensic examination. During that examination evidence was found that is consistent with sexual abuse.
On Monday, December 24, 2012, UCSO detectives responded and arranged to meet with the victim and her parents at the Children’s Justice Center where the 11 year old victim could be interviewed. The victim was interviewed by an investigator with the Utah Division of Child and Family Services. During that interview the victim said she was at the suspect’s home having a sleep with a friend, the suspect’s daughter. She said that before going to bed the suspect had given her a pill she believed to be for a headache. She said her headache did not go away but that she fell asleep. The victim disclosed that she woke up during the night to find the suspect near her in the act of sexually abusing her.
After interviewing the victim detectives went to the home of the suspect, Hadley D. Christensen, age 38, of Nephi, and spoke to him and another family member. Christensen ultimately invoked his right to remain silent, but detectives already had sufficient evidence to arrest him. They arrested Christensen and booked him into the Juab County Jail on one count of 1st Degree Felony Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child. The investigation is not complete and it is possible that more charges will be filed in this case. A judge set Christensen’s bail at $50,000 Cash Only. He was able to post bail later the night of December 24th.
Hadley D. Christensen is a popular 5th grade teacher and coaches youth wrestling in the Nephi area.
