A 19 year old Payson man died after the motorcycle he was driving went off the road and into the river in Payson Canyon.
On April 25, 2013, at about 7:15 PM, Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of a motorcycle crash in Payson Canyon. The crash occurred about one mile south of the Maple Dell Boy Scouts of America Camp in Payson Canyon. The road in this area is narrow and winding. At the location of the crash there is about a 20 foot drop off into the river. It appeared that as the driver approached he was unable to negotiate a left hand curve. The motorcyle and driver were found in the river by passers by.
Witnesses rendered first aid, which effort continued after Payson Fire and Ambulance personnel arrived. AirMed paramedics also responded and after nearly an hour of efforts to resuscitate the driver he was pronounced dead. The driver, Alexander L. Davis, age 19, Payson, sustained serious head injuries despite the fact he was wearing a helmet. His body was taken to the Office of Medical Examiner in Salt Lake City. Results of that examination will not be available for several weeks.
