As a result of a plane crash in Spanish Fork Canyon, one individual is dead and another was transported, by medical helicopter, to a local hospital.
On 06/27/13, at 10:25 hours, the Utah Valley Dispatch Center received a phone call from Salt Lake Airport indicating that a Cesna 172 airplane had reported they had a cockpit fire and was going to land on SR-89, at mile marker 304.
Almost simultaneously, the Dispatch Center received a phone call from Price UHP indicating that a Ham Radio Operator had reported that a plane crashed on SR-89, at mile marker 304.1. Additionally, it was reported that there was one dead individual as a result of the crash. One victim has been transported by medical helicopter to Utah Valley Hospital for treatment.
At this time, SR-89 from the Thistle Junction (turnoff from SR-6 in Spanish Fork Canyon) to Fairview has been shut down to through traffic, including travel by local residents.
The FAA and the NTSB have been notified and Utah County Sheriff's Office detectives are at the scene conducting an investigation of the incident. As more details become available, a follow-up press release will be made.
