A 17 year old Utah County girl is in critical condition after the side-by-side ATV she was riding in crashed. She suffered extensive head and facial injuries. She is hospitalized in Provo.
On September 22, 2013, at about 5:45 PM, dispatchers with Utah Valley Dispatch Special Service District received a call reporting a crash in the Left Hand Fork area of Hobble Creek Canyon in Utah County. The caller reported that three teenagers, two girls and a boy, crashed on a side-by-side style ATV and that one of the girls was seriously injured.
When Deputies and medical personnel arrived at the scene they found a 15 year old boy and another teenage girl had sustained minor injuries in the crash. The crash occurred when the 15 year old male driver lost control of the ATV and it tipped over, sliding over 100 feet before coming to a stop.
A second passenger in the ATV, Deborah Benedict, age 17, of Hobble Creek Canyon, suffered serious head and facial injuries during the crash. She was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in in critical condition. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected, but investigators believe speed was likely a factor in the crash.
