A young Goshen mother and her daughter are without a home after an accidental fire destroyed their dwelling. The 22 year old mother and her 22 month daughter escaped from the home uninjured.
The fire was caused after a TV dinner was placed into the microwave oven to cook. After starting the microwave the mother walked to another room and was soon alerted by the smoke detectors.
Upon returning to the kitchen the homeowner found it filling with smoke and evacuated the home. Neighbors rushed to her aid, and assisted her with removing some automobiles from harms way.
Fire units from Goshen, Genola and Santaquin all responded to the incident. Deputies from the Utah County Sheriff's Office also responded.
Despite the efforts of the fire agencies involved the home was determined to be a total loss, with damages estimated at over $120,000.
The mother and her child will be staying with nearby relatives. The State Fire Marshall will be conducting an investigation.
