On 06/22/14, at approximately 14:20 hours, the Utah Valley Dispatch Center received a 911 phone call from an individual reporting that an aircraft had crashed in the Cedar Valley area.
When Utah County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived, they located the pilot, 60 year old Jeff Kent Knell of Salt Lake City, outside of the non- motorized experimental aircraft. Tragically, Mr. Knell was killed on impact. The incident occurred about 1/2 mile South of the Cedar Valley airport, in the Eagle Mountain area of Utah County.
Witnesses reported that Mr. Knell was flying at an approximate altitude of 7500 feet when he began to lose altitude quickly and crashed nose first into the ground.
The NTSB and FAA have been notified of the incident and it is currently under investigation by Utah County Sheriff's Office detectives. At this time, it is not known why the crash occurred. Our thoughts are with the Knell family as they try to recover from their loss.
