A 20 year old Autistic man is missing after walking away from a group while on an outing at South Fork Park in Provo Canyon. Anyone who might see this man is asked to call 911 immediately.
***UPDATE*** Stephen Simmons was found about 4:30 PM a half mile from where he was last seen. He was dehydrated and sustained some very minor injuries. After being treated by SAR medical personnel he was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center by North Fork Ambulance to be evaluated. He is expected to recover fully.
On August 13, 2014, just after noon, the Utah County Sheriff's Office was notified of a missing 20 year old male. The male, Stephen Simmons, age 20, is Autistic but is higher functioning. He was with a large number of people on an outing at South Fork Park in Provo Canyon. He was last seen around 10:30 AM this morning. Stephen is 6'00" tall, weighs 230 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. He is wearing a blue striped polo shirt, black shorts, and may have a blue back pack with his name on it. He does not speak well and will be difficult to understand and he may drool when he speaks. He lives in a group home in Payson and has family in Riverton. He would know how to make his way to either location. It is possible he could hitch a ride from the area. He likes to sneak up on people and scare them.
Utah County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue is in the area looking for Stephen. There is also a helicopter assisting in the search. Anyone who sees Stephen or has information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the Utah County Sheriff's Office at (801)794-3970, or call 911. A staging area for media will be at South Fork Park. You get there by going up Provo Canyon (SR-189) and turning south at Vivian Park. South Fork Park is about 2 miles up South Fork Canyon.
