On November 24, 2014, just after 2:30 PM, a Sergeant with Utah County Sheriff's Office was on patrol in Cedar Fort when he witnessed a motorcycle crash. The motorcycle was driving south on state road 73 in Cedar Fort when the driver lost control and crashed. He is estimated to have been traveling 60 MPH and told investigators he attempted to pop a wheelie when he lost control. The driver, Jason Todd Westergard, age 46, of Cedar Fort, suffered serious scrapes and abrasions and may have broken both bones in the lower part of one of his legs. The passenger, Randal M. Sutton, age 55, also of Cedar Fort, sustained a serious injury to his lower right leg and foot. Sutton's right foot was nearly severed. He was take to IMC by LifeFlight medical helicopter.
While investigating this crash Deputies smelled the odor of alcohol on the driver. Westergard admitted to having had 3 beers to drink. He also refused to submit to a breath test so investigators obtained a warrant to collect a blood sample from Westergard. That test result is pending.
