A 27 year old Spanish Fork man was arrested after he attempted to meet a 13 year old girl. That 13 year old was not who he expected.
On December 18, 2014, Detectives with the Utah Valley Special Victims Task Force, working with the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, arrested a 27 year old Spanish Fork man after he attempted to meet a 13 year old girl to engage in illegal sexual activity. The 13 year old girl in this case was a Utah County Sheriff's Office Detective who began communications with the suspect in early October 2014. The suspect, Russell Jay Lake, age 27, of Spanish Fork, initially used an app that allows communications to be made anonymously to a limited geographic area. Those communications then moved to email. During these communications Lake described sexual acts he would perform with the detective, whom he believed to be a 13 year old girl.
At around 9:00 PM on December 18 Lake arrived at the location he arranged and was arrested by Detectives without incident. Lake was booked into jail on charges of Attempted Sodomy on a Child, Attempted Object Rape of a Child, Attempted Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child, and Enticing or Luring a Minor by Internet or Text, all 2nd Degree felonies. Bail has not yet been set for Lake.
