A Utah County man died today when his car drifted into the path of a garbage truck in Cedar Fort. The driver of the car appears to have died on impact.
*****. UPDATE *****. The man who died in the crash in Cedar Fort on 5/19/15 was Donald Leroy Peterson, age 72, of Provo. After speaking with family members investigators did not learn anything about Mr. Peterson that would immediately explain what happened to cause this crash.
On May 19, at 2:30 PM, Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of a crash on SR-73 in Cedar Fort. This crash occurred at mile marker 24 on the south end of Cedar Fort. A red passenger car was driving north and drifted across the center line and into the path of a south bound garbage truck. The driver of the garbage truck said he tried to swerve out of the way but was unable to avoid colliding head on with the car. The driver of the garbage truck said the car drifted across the center line. The collision was nearly directly head on. The victim suffered extensive injuries and appears to have died on impact. We will not be releasing the name of the victim until tomorrow, 5/20/15, so family members can be notified.
