A 17 year old Lehi girl died after the vehicle she was driving rolled and she was ejected. 3 other teens were also ejected with 1 sustaining life threatening injuries.
On Thursday, June 11, 2015, a few minutes after 11:00 PM, officers with Lehi Police Department were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle crash at about 2300 N 600 E. After Lehi Officers arrived they determined the crash occurred outside their city limits on Dry Creek Way, a road in an unincorporated area of Utah County. A witness driving in the area saw the crash happen and found the driver and 3 others had been thrown from the car. This witness assisted by administering CPR to the driver until Lehi Fire Department Paramedics arrived. The driver, Maryah Hayley Edwards, age 17, from Lehi, was then declared dead at the scene. Maryah was not wearing a seat belt. A male passenger, Jayden Farrell, age 17, of Lehi, was also thrown from the vehicle. He sustained numerous injuries and was flown to IMC in Murray where he underwent surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. Among other injuries, he suffered a broken back and broken neck and is in extremely critical condition. Of the six occupants in the vehicle 5 were age 17 and one, a girl, was age 16. 4 of the 6 were ejected. The front seat passenger, a 17 year old girl from Lehi, was wearing a seat belt and suffered only minor injuries.
The area where this crash occurred is a narrow two lane road with no shoulder. This vehicle was driving north and the driver was able to negotiate a right hand curve. A short distance later the road curved back to the left and the driver lost control of the vehicle. There is a 20 MPH posted cautionary speed, with other caution signs to alert drivers to the nature of the road. The vehicle is estimated to have been traveling in excess of 50 MPH. Deputies will continue their investigation to determine if drugs or alcohol may have been factors in this crash.
