A 15 year old boy from Lehi died after crashing his off road motorcycle while riding at the BLM Five Mile Pass Recreation Area.

On July 24, 2015, at about 1153, Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of a motorcycle crash at the BLM Five Mile Pass Recreation Area. This area is located near the Utah County/Tooele County line west of Cedar Fort. The victim, Thayer Dajon Kelly, age 15, of Lehi, was riding in the area with relatives. A cousin riding an ATV near Kelly found him unconscious and unresponsive near an abandoned railroad bed. The cousin ran about 1/4 mile to tell Kelly's uncle. The uncle, along with bystanders, responded and found Kelly unconscious and not breathing. They began CPR and that effort continued after Deputies arrived, along with paramedics with Unified Fire Authority in Eagle Mountain. An AirMed helicopter responded but Kelly was pronounced dead prior to their arrival. While Kelly's cousin was riding nearby, he did not see the crash and there were no other witnesses. It appeared that Kelly had ridden over the top of the old railroad bed and, at some point, lost control and crashed. He was wearing a helmet and protective motorcycle clothing. Kelly sustained severe chest and head trauma. His body was taken to the Office of Medical Examiner in Salt Lake City. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in this crash.
