*** Update *** The man who died on Mt. Nebo has been identified as Gregory Bronder, age 40, of Tooele, Utah. A Utah DPS Helicopter was called in to airlift the victim and the two other hikers off the mountain. There doesn't appear to be anything suspicious about the accident, however, and investigation is on going.
On 8-15-15, shortly after 11:30 am, Emergency Responders, along with Search and Rescue teams from Juab County and Utah County, were dispatched to Mt. Nebo on a report of a 40 year old male that had fallen. 3 mountain climbers were hiking in that area training to hike Mt. Rainier. While crossing a saddle between two of the peaks, one of the hikers fell approximately 500-600 meters. The other two hikers attempted to provide medical attention to the injured hiker, however, his injuries were too severe and he died as a result of the fall. Investigators from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office are on scene and are working with the Search and Rescue teams to recover the body. The name of the deceased will not be named until family members have been notified. For more information please contact Lt. Erik Knutzen, PIO Utah County Sheriff’s Office, 801-404-6727.
