A 43 year old man from Manti died when the off highway vehicle he was driving rolled and he was ejected.
On July 29, 2016, at about 7:30 PM, dispatchers in Price received a call about an off highway vehicle crash. They learned from the caller that the crash occurred near Emma Park Road in a remote part of southeast Utah County. The exact location was 4 miles from Emma Park Road near U.S. Highway 6, in Spanish Fork Canyon. Deputies with Carbon County Sheriff's Office, Officers with Helper Police, and Carbon County Ambulance responded and found the driver of the OHV being driven in a private vehicle from the scene. Shortly after ambulance personnel made contact with the driver they determined he was deceased.
The driver who died was John Christopher Mulder, age 43, of Manti. There were no obvious injuries, but Mulder may have sustained serious internal injuries. An adult male who was riding with Mulder sustained only minor injuries. Witnesses reported that Mulder lost control of the OHV and it rolled off of the dirt road they were riding on. Evidence at the scene led investigators to believe alcohol might be a factor in this crash.
Mulder's body was taken to the Office of Medical Examiner in Salt Lake. This investigation remains active.
