A Cedar Hills man died while hiking above Granite Flat camp ground in American Fork Canyon. Circumstances are not suspicious, but his cause of death is not known.
On October 6, 2016, at about 4:00 AM, Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of an overdue hiker in American Fork Canyon. The missing man, Arthur Wayne Wiseman, age 60, of Cedar Hills, left home about 5:15 PM to go on a short hike. He was expected to return home before dark. His family searched the Mineral Basin area for several hours but did not find Mr. Wiseman or his truck. Deputies and Search and Rescue also did not find him. A short time after the family first called, at about 5:50 AM, a man hiking on a trail above Granite Flat camp ground called from the emergency phone at Tibble Fork reservoir reporting he found a body on a trail near the Silver Lake Flat Road. Investigators with the Sheriff's Office responded and found the man. They determined this man was Arthur Wiseman. Mr. Wiseman appeared to have stopped and had taken off his gloves and glasses. He did not appear to have sustained trauma and circumstances in this case are not suspicious. Mr. Wiseman's body was recovered and was taken to the Office of Medical Examiner in Salt Lake.
