An Ogden man, who is a registered sex offender, was arrested for enticing a minor over the internet and dealing in harmful materials to a minor. He was released from prison in March 2016.
In mid-September, 2016, Investigators from the Utah County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Homeland Security, as part of the Utah Valley Special Victims Task Force and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, began communicating with registered sex offender Jason Wayne Jones, age 37, from Ogden. Jones arranged to meet who he believed was a 13 year old girl. When he arrived at a park in Provo with the intention of having sexual relations with that girl Jones was arrested. He was booked on October 26, 2016. The girl in this case was actually an undercover Detective.
Jones was released from prison March 26, 2016 after he served a five year prison sentence. Because he served his full sentence, Jones is not on parole. He is, however, a registered sex offender in Utah. In that case Jones was arrested for having Unlawful Sexual Relations with a Minor, a 3rd degree felony. He pled guilty to a reduced charge of Sexual Battery, a class A misdemeanor. In this new case Jones was booked into the Utah County jail on a 2nd degree felony charge of Enticing, Soliciting, or Luring a Minor by Internet or Text, and a 3rd degree felony charge of Dealing in Harmful Materials to a Minor. In this case a Judge set bail for Jones at $10,000.00 cash only.
