A 29 year old man was shot in both legs by his father as he assaulted his father and mother. The son is in custody and all three were transported to UVRMC in Provo where they are being evaluated.
*** UPDATE, Jan 3, 2017, 2:45 PM *** Connie Peterson, who was assaulted this morning by her son Jesse Peterson, sustained a fractured skull and internal bleeding. She has been hospitalized and her injuries may require surgery before she is stabilized. Keith Peterson, who was also assaulted by his son Jesse Peterson, was treated for his injuries and released. Jesse Peterson is being treated at UVRMC for gunshot wounds he sustained to both of his legs after he was shot by his father while assaulting his father. Deputies have been told Jesse is expected to be released. While being treated Jesse is in the custody of the Utah County Sheriff's Office. When he is released from the hospital he will be booked into the Utah County Jail. He will be booked on charges of aggravated assault, but there will be additional charges related to other actions he took during the course of this attack.
On January 3, 2017, at about 7:28 AM, Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report from a man who said his 29 year old son was assaulting him and his wife. The caller, Edward Keith Peterson, 68, of Hobble Creek Canyon, reported that his son, Jesse Dell Peterson, 29, who lived with them, was assaulting him and his wife, Connie Lorraine Peterson, age 67. Keith reported that Jesse was assaulting them with a variety of household objects as well as with his fists. Keith told dispatchers that as Jesse continued to assault him and Connie that he shot Jesse in the leg.
Deputies arrived at the location of the assault in the Holiday Hills subdivision in the Left Fork of Hobble Creek Canyon. They found the suspect, Jesse Peterson, and took him into custody and provided medical treatment. Jesse Peterson sustained gunshot wounds to both legs. Connie and Keith Peterson were transported by ambulance to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo while Jesse was flown there by a LifeFlight helicopter. All three are being treated and Jesse remains in custody as he is being treated. Initial information gathered by investigators is that Keith shot Jesse in self defense, but the investigation remains active. Jesse is currently on felony probation with the Utah Department of Adult Probation and Parole. He told Deputies he had been using methamphetamine.
