Prescription Discount Program Saves Residents $1.1 million
The Utah County Prescription Discount Program has saved residents $1,102,001.88 on prescriptions since the county joined in September of 2006. Almost 70,000 prescriptions have been purchased through the plan with an average savings of about 21 percent.
"We are glad to hear that residents are taking advantage of this program," said Lance Madigan, Utah County Health Department public information officer. "These numbers go back two and a half years, so we expect to see the use climb as the economy continues to stagnate. We are just happy to hear we can help our citizens in this way."
The Utah County Prescription Discount Program is a discount prescription drug program to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription medications. Brought to the UCHD by the Utah County Commissioners, the program is a partnership between the National Association of Counties and Caremark, Rx, Inc.. The cards may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage, and are accepted at 75 pharmacies throughout the county, and more than 57,000 pharmacies nation-wide.
To participant, individuals only need to pick up a discount card at the health department or participating pharmacies. There is no enrollment process or membership fees necessary, and you can use the card as often as you like. Cardholders and their family members may use the card any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance.Pharmacy staff will run the card to see what kind of discount will be available. Cards are available at Utah County government facilities, participating pharmacies, and other sites around the county. A complete list of participating pharmacies and locations where cards may be obtained is available on the Utah County Health Department web site by clicking here.
A brochure, that includes additional health resources available to citizens, is included. A copy is available by clicking here.
A national network of more than 57,000 participating retail pharmacies will also honor the NACo prescription discount card.
