Eight year old child falls in the river in Provo Canyon.
On 07/20/09, at approximately 12:07 hours, the Utah Valley Dispatch Center received a phone call reporting that a child had fallen into the river in Provo Canyon. Consequently, emergency responders were sent to assist.
An 8 year old female had been playing by the river in the Bridal Veil Falls area when she fell into the water and was swept away by the current.
Approximately 30 minutes later, the child was pulled from the Provo River by emergency responders from the Utah County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team, the Provo Fire Department and North Forth Fire Department. Responders pulled the child from water in between Nunn's Park and Canyon Glen Park.
The child has been transported by medical helicopter to the Primary Children's Hospital for treatment. At this time, she is in critical condition. Additional and more specific information will be provided as it becomes available and after immediate family members have been contacted.
