You can still help, go to www.CleanOutTheCabinet.org for details on proper storing and disposal of unused medications

(April 27) -- The Utah County Substance Misuse and Abuse Reduction Team (SMART), the Utah County Division of Substance Abuse and the Utah County Health Department would like to thank the community and our partners for taking a stand against substance abuse in the month of April. Almost 900 pounds of pharmaceuticals were collected at ten Take Back event in April, amounting to over 92,000 pills collected. As more than 70 percent of teens who abuse pain medication say they got their pills from family or friends, this is a significant move towards limiting the availability of medications for abuse.

SMART specifically wanted to thank the following partners: Walgreen's, Utah Valley University (UVU), Walmart for event locations; Law Enforcement officers from UVU, Provo, Orem, Pleasant Grove, Lehi, Saratoga Springs, Lindon, Springville, and Payson who secured the events; and volunteers from Intermountain Heathcare's Community Coalitions, SMART Utah County, Springville City's drug prevention coalition ASAP, Lindon City employees/citizens, and Utah County Environmental Services.

SMART encourages everyone to secure medication when it is stored so it cannot be abused, and to properly dispose of unused medication. For more information please see www.CleanOutTheCabinet.org or call
