On July 23, 2010, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a female individual, age 29, who reported that she was sexually assaulted by a Provo Police Officer during an investigation of a traffic accident that occurred on July 22, 2010 in Provo City. The Police Officer was identified as Jeffery Westerman, age 33. During the course of the investigation evidence was obtained that was consistent with the victim’s statement.
Westerman turned himself in on August 3, 2010 and was arrested and booked into the Juab County Jail on one 2nd Degree Felony charge of Forcible Sexual Abuse and one 3rd Degree Felony charge of Obstruction of Justice. Westerman allegedly used his position to request sexual favors in lieu of arresting the victim. Westerman later obstructed justice by providing false statements during the course of the investigation. The case will be referred to the Utah County Attorney’s Office.
