Hostage situation successfully resolved in Eagle Mountain today.
On 12/23/10, at approximately 09:20 hours, the Utah Valley Dispatch Center received a 911 phone call from an 11-year old child reporting that his mother and father were fighting. Consequently, Utah County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the Robert Holewinski residence in Eagle Moutain in order to investigate the situation.
Reportedly, Holewinski (29 yrs. old) had pushed his wife in the kitchen and the child was frightened. Prior to deputies arriving, Mr. Holewinski left the residence with his infant child, of approximately one year in age, and went over to a neighbor's house where he stayed outside on the porch. At that time, he was wearing a ballistic vest and was armed with two handguns and multiple magazines.
When deputies arrived, they requested that the Utah County Metro SWAT team and hostage negotiators respond to assist given the circumstances. By about 11:30 hours, negotiators were able to successfully convince Mr. Holewinski to release his child to them unharmed. Eventually, negotiators were able to pursuade him to lay down his firearms and were able to take him into custody, by 12:24 hours, with no further incident.
No shots were fired and nobody was injured during the standoff. Mr. Holewinski was taken to a local hospital to be medically cleared before being booked into the Utah County Jail on the following charges: Domestic Violence Assault, Domestic Violence in the Presence of Children x2, Child Abuse and Brandishing a Firearm.
