To be awarded at UVU on Thursday, March 17th
PROVO, Utah (March 14, 2011) -- $2,000 in scholarship money will be awarded to winners of the CUIDATE! Hispanic Highway Safety at the Latino Youth Leadership in Action Conference at UVU. The day-long conference is attended by about 1,400 Latino students from 51 schools across the state. Car accidents are the leading cause of death for Latino teens. Latino youth are less likely to wear their seatbelt and more likely to report drunk driving than their non-Hispanic peers. Teens in general are at risk for distracted driving. The goal of the contest was for Latino youth in ages 13-19 were eligible for this contest which asked entrants to create a video, artwork, song, dance, or rap that spread the message to wear your seatbelt, don't drive distracted and don't drive impaired.
The Awards and scholarships will be awarded at 3 p.m. in the Utah Valley University Events Center on March 17th (not the Ballroom as previously advertised).
