The Utah County Sheriff's Office will conduct an Administrative Checkpoint at Site #1(SR92 mp 10.9). The checkpoint may be conducted from 1:00pm on Saturday July 23, until 3:00am Sunday July 24, 2011.
Due to the increased amount of Holiday traffic in the recreation areas of Utah County, the Utah County Sheriff's Office will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on SR 92 at mile post 10.9 beginning on Saturday, July 23th 2011 at approximately 1:00pm and ending on Sunday July 24, 2011 no later than 3:00am.
The primary purpose of this checkpoint is to enforce Title 41, Chapter 6a, Part 5 of the Utah State Code Annotated (more specifically to inspect, verify, or detect drivers that may be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs). Additionally, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office wants to raise the level of public awareness and inform citizens of the efforts that are being used to identify and apprehend impaired drivers and to create a deterrent effect through increased enforcement activity.
Drivers suspected of impairment will be given roadside standardized field sobriety tests to determine impairment levels and confirmed impaired drivers will be arrested. Drivers not identified as impaired will be allowed to proceed with minimal delay.
While some motorists may be slightly inconvenienced by this checkpoint, citizens patience and cooperation will assist in this important safety effort.
Note to Media: Members of the news media are invited to cover Saturday’s checkpoint. If you would like to attend, contact Sgt Wayne Keith @ 801-404-1925.
