Former Utah County Division of Substance Abuse separated from health department
PROVO, Utah (October 18, 2011) -- The Utah County Commissioners voted today to separate and rename the former Division of Substance Abuse from the Utah County Health Department (UCHD), creating the new Utah County Department of Drug and Alcohol Prevention and Treatment (UCDDAPT).
"It is really just a technical and administrative change," said Richard Nance, UCDDAPT director. "We have our own governing board with separate funding. I have been treated as a department head for years. As far as services go, there is no change. It is just administrative."
Nance points out that the UCDDAPT will be the third largest department in the county by staff numbers behind the Sheriff and health department.
The UCDDAPT is overseen by the Local Substance Abuse Authority Board, which is comprised of the Utah County Commissioners. The UCHD, on the other hand, has its own Board of Health, for which the commissioners have representation on but don't oversee in the same manner.
The Utah County Department of Drug and Alcohol Prevention and Treatment is responsible for prevention, treatment, and early intervention programs for both youth and adult citizens of Utah County.
