The Utah County Sheriff's Office K9 unit won seven (7) prestigious awards in competition with law enforcement agencies from around the western United States including Top Dog.

We congratulate our team for their performance including the Top Dog Award. All four handlers, Adam Collings, Brett Lawrenson, Dave Balmforth, and John Thomas are to be commended as they won 7 total awards.

Deputy Lawrenson and his dog Kilo, won TOP DOG. This is an exceptional accomplishment as it is the number one award given to a handler and his dog. The award is given to the dog with the overall most points out of the nine events in the competition. It is the first time a Utah County Deputy has taken 1st place Top Dog at the Vegas Trials. Brett and Kilo earlier this year won Top Dog in the Utah Peace Officers Association K9 trials as well.

Deputy Lawrenson and Kilo also placed 5th in Area Man Search, 4th in Agility, 2nd in Building Man Search and 1st in Apprehension.

Deputy Balmforth, and his dog Vito, placed 3rd in Building Narcotics Search and 2nd in Agility.

All of our K9 handlers work extremely hard and are very dedicated to serving the Sheriff's Office and citizens of Utah County.
