Utah County will offer free "Quit Kits" for Great American Smokeout
PROVO, UTAH (November 9, 2011) -- The American Cancer Society's 36th annual Great American Smokeout will take place this year on November 17th. Tobacco users are encouraged to use this date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day.
In honor of this event, the Utah County Health Department's Tobacco Prevention and Control Program will be providing free "Tobacco Quit Kits" to community members wanting to quit smoking. These Quit Kits include informational handouts that offer suggestions for controlling cigarette cravings as well as information about the Utah Tobacco Quit Line. Items to help quit are also included, such as toothpicks, hard candies, and gum.
The Utah Tobacco Quit Line is a free resource that offers personalized help, one-on-one cessation counseling, connections to resources in your area, and even medication for those who qualify! For help or questions about quitting call the quit line at 1-800-QUIT NOW and for help in Spanish call 1-877-629-1585.
The Tobacco Prevention and Control program also offers a free smoking cessation program called "First Step" for pregnant women and their families. For more information about the First Step program you can contact Janae at 801-851-7068.
Quit Kits will be available in the main lobby of the Health and Justice Building, located at 151 S. University Ave in Provo, during the week of November 14th to 17th.
