A 30 year old American Fork man was killed when his truck ran over him while off roading west of Utah Lake.
On May 12, 2012, at about 10:15 A.M., Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to respond to a report of an off road accident in the area of Lake Mountain, west of SR-68 at about mile post 20.5. AirMed also responded to the area and were the first to locate the victim. They made some efforts to resuscitate the victim but he had sustained extensive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Killed in this incident was Joel Bryon Larson, age 30, American Fork. Witnesses, including Larson's wife, reported that their pickup truck, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, experienced mechanical problems and they were trying to push the truck to a location where they could coast down hill. As they made this effort the truck began to roll forward and Larson was in front of it. He was unable to get out of the way and was dragged then run over by the truck. Larson's wife sustained scrapes and bruises.
