On June 13th, 2012, just after midnight, a Utah County Sheriff's Office Deputy assigned to traffic enforcement, attempted to stop a 2007 Dodge Mega Cab truck on I-15 in Utah County near Spanish Fork Utah. Shepard was wanted for multiple felony no bail warrants for his arrest including possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and forgery.

Shepard refused to stop the vehicle and led the Deputy on a high speed chase for about two miles where he left the freeway, driving through a fence and farm property. The deputy was unable to continue the pursuit. Team members from the Joint Criminal Apprehension Team along with the members from the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force were able to locate the vehicle in the area. They recovered the vehicle that returned as stolen from Pleasant Grove.

Officers tracked Shepard to Orem Utah where Shepard again fled from Officers in a motor vehicle and then on foot. One adult female along with one adult male were arrested for felony evasion in a motor vehicle as well as for possession of drugs with intent to distribute. At about 03:00 hours the JCAT and UCMC team members located Shepard at a residence in Provo where he was arrested.
