A Santaquin man and an Orem woman were arrested for multiple counts of residential burglary after an alert citizen called dispatchers to report a suspicious pickup near a vacant home.

On September 11, 2012, a citizen called in a suspicious vehicle in an area of Utah County with a male and female occupant. Due to recent burglaries in the area, Utah County Sheriff’s Deputies along with the assistance of Payson Police Department responded to the area in attempts to locate the suspicious vehicle. The vehicle was located by a Sheriff’s Deputy who witnessed a female driver on a cell phone, the female was contacted and found to have possession of stolen property which included jewelry and cameras. During contact with the female, Christy Carson, age 29, of Orem, it was learned that the male individual, Ricky Brost, age 31, of Santaquin, had been inside a residence committing a burglary.

Brost ran into a field and hid from law enforcement. A search of the area was conducted, Brost eventually came out of the field and was apprehended. Brost led authorities to a location where he had hid items he had taken from a residence he was actively burglarizing when contact was made with Christy Carson. Carson was the “lookout” while the burglary was being conducted. It was determined that both Carson and Brost are on Federal probation.

A wedding ring, a wedding band, class ring, jewelry, cameras and miscellaneous cash were taken from two separate residences. The property recovered at the scene has been returned to the owners. Prescription medications including Lortab, Xanax and Percocet were located and neither Brost or Carson had a valid prescription for the medications.

Brost was booked into the Utah County Jail on two counts of burglary of a residence, attempted burglary of a residence, two counts of theft and possession of a controlled substance.

Carson was booked into the Utah County Jail on charges of burglary, attempted burglary, theft, driving on suspension and possession of a controlled substance.

The investigation is ongoing related to other burglaries in the Utah County area. The Investigations Division of the Utah County Sheriff's Office is working with multiple jurisdictions in efforts to solve other burglaries.
