The Utah County Sheriff's Office is proud to announce that radKIDS (Personal Empowerment Safety Education) is now a big part of the Utah County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff James O. Tracy has integrated and spearheaded the radKIDS program into the "Community Oriented Policing" program of the Sheriff's Office.

radKIDS empowers children from ages 5 to 11 years old for their own safety. In just 10 hours of instruction the radKIDS curriculum provides children and parents with life saving skills and tools to recognize, avoid, resist and escape violence and harm in their lives. Topics covered are Out and About Safety, Bullying, Internet Safety, Stranger Danger as well as Defense Against Abduction including Physical Resistance Skills and much more.

Deputy Dean Larsen and his wife Alyson were instrumental in bringing this national program to the State of Utah. Deputy Larson and his wife personally invested money into this program to empower kids. Deputy Larson and his wife started this program in the State of Utah and spent many hours teaching children at church, social groups, schools and home.

Sheriff James O. Tracy was so impressed with this program that he made a commitment to support and move this program forward in every community. Sheriff Tracy said this program was the right thing to do for our kids in the community.

Sheriff James O. Tracy has designated Deputy Dean Larsen as the "Community Oriented Policing" Coordinator for the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office in conjunction with the Provo School District are currently teaching over 1000 kids. This program consists of 10 hours instruction. These kids can return to any radKIDS program nation wide to take advantage of the radKIDS return practice free policy.

Nationally 14 children have successfully escaped abduction by using the skills and techniques they learned from the radKIDS program. Locally we have received stories from children who successfully were able to protect themselves from many situations.
