Electric Transformer falls off Semi

Posted On :

An Electric Transformer fell off a semi going west bound out of Spanish Fork Canyon.

On Wednesday June 4, 2003 Dispatch received information that a transformer had fallen off a semi truck that was going west bound out of Spanish Fork Canyon. Provo Haz Mat, Pacific Corp., Highway Patrol and the Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and blocked all traffic going west and east. SR 89 going into Mapleton was also blocked off. Pacific Corp determined the transformer was new and had mineral oil inside of it. The original fear was that the transformer had PCB's and the site would have to be cleaned up by Haz Mat from Provo. The traffic was blocked from about 8:00 to 9:45 A.M. Tom Wroe from the Sheriff's Office along with Pacific Corp are trying to find out who was transporting the transformer when it fell off. No traffic accidents were reported as a result of the accident. Sgt. Dennis Harris/ Public Information Officer/Utah County Sheriff Office
