Detectives arrested a Provo man for burglary, theft, weapon, and drug charges. This man is a career criminal who has spent the vast majority of his adult life in prison.

On the early afternoon of July 10, 2017 Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a home in the Lakeshore area west of Spanish Fork, in Utah County. A woman told Deputies she returned home from shopping and found that the window in a door to her home had been broken. When Deputies arrived they cleared the home and then had the woman check the home with them. She found that several items were missing, including a laptop computer, a camera, a men's wedding band, a box with jewelry in it, and a small amount of cash. It was obvious someone had been in several areas in the home, apparently at the time the items were stolen.

Detectives had very little information to use, but the laptop that was stolen was an Apple MacBook Pro and had the "Find My iPhone" app on it. Several hours after the burglary a Detective who was using the owner's login information found that the computer had been activated. They were able to track the computer to a business in Lindon. The managers of that business accommodated Detectives and a search of their facility was done. Despite the certainty that the computer was in that area Detectives could not find it. They did, however, identify Steven Brad Laursen (Goes by Brad), age 40, of Provo, who was employed at this business. During the course of the investigation Detectives found Laursen to be in possession of items stolen from the home during the burglary, including the missing men's wedding band. So far they have been unable to find the missing laptop and Laursen is not cooperating with the investigation.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for Laursen's apartment in Provo and found two large swords. Because of his status as a convicted felon Laursen is not allowed to have dangerous weapons in his possession. They also found Laursen to be in possession of illegal narcotics, including methamphetamine, marijuana, and prescription medication. Laursen has been booked on the following charges: Burglary of a dwelling, 2nd degree felony; theft, 3rd degree felony; possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, class A misdemeanor; possession of methamphetamine, class A misdemeanor; possession of marijuana, class B misdemeanor; possession of prescription medication, class B misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, class B misdemeanor. Bail has been set in the amount of $3,500.00 cash only.

Laursen was first arrested in Utah 15 days after he turned 18. In the 22 years since that time Laursen has spent 18 years in prison. He was last released from prison in December 2016 after serving 5 years there. Laursen has been booked into the Utah County Jail 40 times.
